Jeans

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J2pIvg-2vEY

When I think about commercials for jeans, one brand instantly comes to mind. Levi's Wrangler jeans are for everyday guys who do guy stuff, so having Brett Favre endorse them seems to make sense. Favre is the superhero for many people because a lot of guys feel like they can relate to him. He is not snobby and condescending, and neither are Wrangler jeans. I like this commercial, I like the Favre-Wrangler combo, and I like the Levi brand.

Coke

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TkHA2pf1gvc

I have always loved and respected the Coca-Cola brand, and this commercial is no different. The visual scenes in this ad are mind-blowing, and there is a feeling of action and adventure. A man sleep walks from his tent in the jungle of Africa with wild animals into a cabin with a fridge and pulls out an ice cold Coca-Cola. When he gets the coke, the ad becomes more colorful. Its an emotional commercial that touched me in the right way and I really like what Coke did with this.

Your not you when your hungry

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X1Sv_z9jm8A

Caution: do not play football if your hungry. You might turn into Betty White. Snickers made me snicker after watching this clip. While playing pickup football, a hungry man turns into Betty White. Luckily someone has a Snickers to satisfy his hunger, and he returns to his normal self. Snickers makes the claim, "your not you when your hungry," as opposed to their old motto, "Snickers Satisfies." I like this commercial because Snickers is sending the same message, but using different words.

Happy Cheese Comes from Happy Cows

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YzZeZf5suq8&p=883DD36B0885564D&index=2&playnext=2

Happy cows come from California. And apparently they sing too. The ad portrays cows singing until the farmer comes outside and the cows moo until the farmer leaves. I can't remember watching a commercial for cheese and I have never bought cheese, but Ill probably buy Real California Cheese if I see it when I need some cheese. The commercial made me laugh and I have positive feelings towards Real California Cheese.

Nike

From a PR perspective, I really really liked this commercial. This came out right after the Tiger Woods sex scandal broke and people were wondering how Nike was going to respond. The voice of Tiger's father Earl is asking him if he learned anything from his experience as opposed to scolding him for being promiscuous. After viewing this commercial, the Nike brand seems wise and cares about the overall well being of their consumers, which includes me. I have seen thousands of Nike commercials, but this is the one what stands out most.

Troy's Hair

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gaJFnGGECJo&feature=pyv&ad=6341746711&kw=head%20%26%20shoulders%20commercial&gclid=CI_e7NXz7KQCFUS4Kgod3nT71Q

Probably the best 15 second spot I have seen/noticed. The function of the product being advertised is clear: Head & Shoulders shampoo will give you thicker hair. The fact that the Southern Cal grad Troy Polamalu was in it, who happens to be the player with the best hair in the NFL, gives some credibility to their claim about thick hair. The commercial is not too flashy and keeps my attention. I have seen this commercial multiple times this month while watching NFL games, which is a good thing because I fit in the target. Next time I shop for shampoo, I might just pick up some H&S.

Two things America got right...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JMRMW1FXSHw

Although maybe a little overdramatic, this commercial is hilarious. I had absolutely no idea what this commercial could possibly be about until I saw good ol' George Washington charging the British in a Dodge Challenger. The thought that the two things America got right are cars and freedom makes me laugh because American cars are not considered top of the line and Americans don't have more freedom than the British. But in a time when patriotism is greatly needed, I think this commercial is clever. This commercial makes me respect Dodge, but I am not in the market to buy a car so its not too effective for me.

Bud... Wise... Er

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pVcbasIb8lQ

This is the first commercial I was aware of that turned into a viral video. I remember talking to my uncles while I was in grade school about this commercial and everyone thought it was original. The commercial is simple but clever, one frog says, "bud" another says, "wise" and the last says, "er." Its comical and had a bunch of people talking about the scene and the Budweiser brand.

DJ Hero?

http://www.youtube.com/user/djhero?v=tjbII5xqG8s&feature=pyv&ad=6095658338&kw=deejay%20hero

Probably the most questionable commercial I have seen this year. There are a bunch of college age kids at a party and a bunch of skin is shown. There are piercing, kids making out, hip-hop music, and tattoos. However, what bothered me is the dj at the end of the commercial. The first time I didn't notice it, but the dj has an African American male head on a caucasian body. Although the product is DJ Hero which mixes songs, mixing the bodies of two people with different ethnicities is completely unnecessary. I will never buy this product, and this commercial has a lot of people talking negatively about the ActiVision brand.

So "G-double-o-d" Good

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b9QPr9LJjUI

Although I am not a big fast food eater and have stopped at Kentucky Fried Chicken probably five times in the last ten years, I think this commercial is great. The KFC brand has always had a comfortable "home" feeling and this new series of commercials is trying to instill the same values the brand stands for but in a new way. The commercial begins with a bunch of different people (of different demographics) saying how the chicken is "so good." Then a calm voice reinforces the theme that the chicken is "so good," and it ends with KFC again reminding people their chicken is "so good" with a song. I think the song at the end of the commercial fits their brand well because it is a simple and somewhat soothing melody. I think KFC did a good job with this commercial because more restaurants are trying to have a somewhat healthy appeal. I think KFC achieved that with this commercial simply by telling consumers they have quality chicken.

BK-Copy Cat

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NLJTIHVXx8o
This commercial is way to similar to the FreeCreditReport.com commercials of years past. The main character sings a simple song in a monotone voice advertising BK's new breakfast line, and all I think about is FreeCreditReport.com. The commercial is completely unoriginal and I lost respect for Burger King after viewing this ad. The song is not even as clever as the FreeCreditReport.com ads, and I assumed Burger King would have tried to promote their new products in a new way instead of copying another company. McDonalds doesn't even have to try to counter with a different breakfast ad, because there is no way im going to BK for breakfast anytime soon.

Do Woodchucks Chuck Wood?

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DjGwusHrOtk
I think this commercial is hilarious, even though I dislike insurance companies. Instead of the signature gecko or caveman, Geico took a different route with this ad. A man asks a rhetorical question, do woodchucks really chuck wood, and a scene is played where woodchucks are tossing wood into a swamp. After a man scolds the woodchucks for throwing his wood, one of the woodchucks tosses another piece into the swamp and they all chuckle. I actually laughed out loud after watching it for the first time, and despite how often it is played I still get a kick out of it. I like how Geico took a different approach with this commercial and really appreciated this ad.

No Daddy

http://videos.godaddy.com/godaddy_media.aspx?ci=13336
I distinctly remember watching this commercial during the 2008 Super Bowl. I could not believe the FCC allowed this commercial to be played, and after watching it I thought GoDaddy.com was a porn site. The clip starts out with a woman holding a beaver, then Danika Patrick comes out of another car and begins to unzip her jacket. Before she exposes anything too inappropriate for TV, she gives a pitch for GoDaddy.com. Although Danika Patrick removing her clothes has absolutely nothing to do with domain names, which is what GoDaddy.com specializes in, the connection between the two is made by the idea of "exposure." I can say that this commercial had people talking the next day, especially my friends and other males who watched the big game. Even though the commercial may not be the most classy, it was effective in the sense that people became aware of the GoDaddy brand name.

iPod Nano

http://www.youtube.com/user/Apple?v=FHngLJ0RlNg&feature=pyv&ad=5647792866&kw=iPhone%20commercial#p/c/44C9C9EA70AE5923/1/UXUNGfL4ZAw

Apple has always done a good job with the ipod commercials, and this new one is no exception. The bright colors and simple shapes in the ad make Apple a comforting brand. Another reason why I like iPod commercials is because there is always a fun song playing that is not mainstream (yet). I saw this today and didn't realize that there was an iPod nano with a touch screen. I think the touch screen adds significantly to the convenience of the nano, and I'm probably going to ask for one for Christmas. I have had two iPods in the last 6 years, and have been happy with my purchase of both.

Man Law

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xZKVKLR8jBU&feature=related

One of my favorite series of commercials is the "Men of the Square Table"/"Miller Lite Man Law." This commercial actually made me laugh out loud when I saw it the second time, because I didn't completely catch all the quick-wit-humor the first time around. Miller probably expects me to like this commercial because I am part of the target audience, as these commercials are normally played on Sundays during the football season. Men have an attachment to the garage and are quite territorial, my dad included. I think it is hilarious that the men in this commercial won't make any exceptions for items that belong in the garage fridge; only beer can be placed in the garage, for that is the sacred "man space."
